Qi Gong Tips #7
By drandrewcolyer | August 12, 2007
The past few weeks we have been starting class with practicing Standing and the Commencement.
Hawks is talking about “Dreaming Things” today.
“You have to dream it into existence.”
And, you have to practice for your body to get it.
“You gotta get your dream straight.”
“It’s not a task. It’s not work”
Just like a Master Carpenter = or a Master Artist = they just start, and do.
And the next thing you know, the whole day has gone by.
“Stop making it a task; start making it a part of your dream.”
Wu-Ji = The Void = We start in the Void.
Wuji (Emptiness, Chaos, Supreme Unknown, Primordial, Body of the Dao, Before the Beginning, State Before Yin/Yang)
Part of everything in the Universe.
We are a part of everything in the Universe = which means . . .
“You are the Universe.”
From the One, came the two. From the two, comes three. From three, comes four. From four, comes 10,000 things.
I ask, “What if you are having a really bad day, or are pissed off about something, and you can’t get into the Void to start?”
Hawks gives two answers:
“Stand, and let the energy move.”
or,
“I would suggest changing your life.”
Sometimes I swear Hawks can read my mind.
Either that or he is channeling from somewhere else or someone else.
“You can take your intensity and turn it into chaos, or you can take your intensity and turn it into focus.”
I shall do my best to remember that quote every day.
Qi Gong Principle: The Body moves as a unit, inside and out.
Utilizing wide-angle vision, seeing everything and seeing nothing.
When we use the terms “gaze” and “look” = it is not quite literal = it is more like “putting your attention.”
Chan Su Jing:
Chan Su jing, or silk reeling energy, is perhaps the most essential of jings.
Chan Su jing is spiraling movement, which allows for the use of the whole body.
“The spiral inside you.”
“You are training to become part of the spiral of existence.”
The Void >> Spiral >> Tai Qi Tu = no beginning and no ending.
“Do not think of anything, and let it happen.”
We start with feet one fist apart, in parallel footing.
Your feet are making the circle.
“Everything has to happen from top to bottom.”
“You become a generator.”
Some of us are not getting it, so we try another exercise to get the feeling that we are supposed to be having.
Spread your legs, bend over, dangle your arms, and rotate.
Let your arms swing freely, like a rope swing, or yo-yo, only in circles.
It’s supposed to be the same with the Chan Su Jing, only you are standing upright.
Eventually the Spiral takes over.
“What you are learning is how to project energy in the direction of a spiral.”
“If you know how to open the joints, the spiral will make itself evident.”
How fast do you go?
The speed is almost the same for everybody = the only difference is to account for the size of your body.
If the cycle of the turning of the Earth is 12,000 miles per hour, how does that translate down to us, one of the smallest moving pieces?
The Earth, the Sun, the planets, gravity, the Universe = I am a part of Everything!
You are a part of Everything!
One of the things that I have said in my health care practice for the past 14 years:
“Everything is connected to Everything.”
That’s actually the working title of our first album over at IndrasNetMusic.com.
Different kinds of footing when stepping out:
- Shovel Footing = skims the ground = used in the Chen form = starts with parallel footing = used in most Tai Qi forms
- Hooking Footing = “hooks” as it comes around and down = our lineage = starts with “V” footing = allows you to hook
After a while, things become automatic.
Start in Wu Ji = The Void = and wait for the Inspiration = literally and figuratively = then it happens automatically.
Many ancient languages contained Truth.
“Inspire” = Latin = “to take in the spirit”.
“This is a way of life, a lifestyle. This is not just a martial art or a health thing.”
“Then your life revolves around it, not having it revolve around your life.”
Standing Hug Tree
The more your form looks like that, the energy flows.
Qi Gong Principle: Five Bows
There should be five “bows” = curved, like a bow used to shoot an arrow:
- Lf Knee
- Rt knee
- Lf elbow
- Rt elbow
- Spine
Hawks also talked about Music and Dancing today:
- War Dancing and African Dancing = was a way of teaching the Form to children, and practicing Forms with the entire tribe while preparing for war at the same time.
- some of the best music is old original Irish music
- Best Song Ever? “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”. That’s his Death Song.
“Everybody has a song inside them.”
Funniest Hawks quote of the day:
“There’s been too many generations of Ding-Dongs.”
